Auburn's new coach?

Gene Chizik from the (I can't even find it on a map and my GPS never heard of it) Iowa State may be our new coach. His record as a head coach ? 5 & 19. His conference record last year as a head coach ? 0 - 8. Wow. I'm hopeful that this is speculation, but The Birmingham News is reporting, from a story they picked up from Iowa TV station KCCI.

Ryan Perrilloux calls Nick Saban

This is the actual news:Dismissed LSU QB Perrilloux failed drug test - College Football

This conversation might have occurred. If it did, I assume that it happened soon after.

Ryan Perrilloux: Coach Saban?
Nick Saban: Yes?
Ryan Perrilloux: This is Ryan Perrilloux.
Nick Saban: From LSU ?
Ryan Perrilloux: Yes, sir. It seems that I was cut from the LSU Tigers for failing a drug test.
Nick Saban: Ouch! They still do those ?
Ryan Perrilloux: Yep. Anyway, I though that you might have a need for a QB.
Nick Saban: Always. Have you done any jailtime?
Ryan Perrilloux: Not yet. But Coach, I'm willing to do whatever it takes.

Barry Bonds loses...

We went to see the Braves beat the Giants last night and that's what happened. Whenever Barry got to bat, some people screamed "Cheat-er!" or "Ster-oids!" or just booed. Others (like Amy and I) didn't react to Barry's appearance in Atlanta and others gave standing ovations whenever he stood at the plate.

There was a sign hanging from The Chop House that showed "758*" and there were people that were holding up asterisks and even wearing asterisks on their shirts. The asterisk, of course, indicate that the record over hometown hero Hank Aaron is tainted.

Jock's & Jill's remove jersey.

Right around the time that Michael Vick was indicted, Amy and I sat at a table under a Michael Vick jersey. The other night, we went there with Anna and Jeff and that jersey has been removed and replaced with that of a different Falcon (sorry, I don't remember which one).

Sports teams in Austin...

I first moved to the Austin area in January of 1993. When I got here, there were no professional sports teams. Now there are several. The Austin Icebats (Hockey), The Austin Wranglers (Arena Football)and The Round Rock Express, (Minor League Baseball). I've been to one Wranglers game, two Icebats games, and countless Express games. They are every bit as exciting as their major league counterparts.
