I had the afternoon off yesterday and today, and needed some plumbing done at the house. Yesterday afternoon, I called Zoom Plumbing in Atlanta (a friend recommended it) and talked to Tom (I assume Tom Connolly, who appears to be the owner) and scheduled an appointment today between 2-6pm. He asked if the address was in Little 5 Points and I said that it was 3-4 miles east of there.
Today, Tom called around 3:00 and asked if I still needed a plumber. I said that I did and he asked me if we lived 'near McLendon'. I said that I don't know where that is, but that our house is in the Oakhurst neighborhood in Decatur. He said that he was on his way.
At 5:30, he had still not arrived or called, so I called him and he said that he hadn't been able to find the house, that he had driven all over the place looking for it and it wasn't worth it. I asked why he didn't call to get directions or go to Google Maps, or use a GPS or at least call and say that he wasn't coming out. He said the he had a bad day and everything had gone wrong. I said "So you want to make sure that everyone else had a bad day"?
Please make sure not to call Zoom Plumbing Atlanta for anything. I didn't link to them from this blog, because I don't want to inadvertently send them any customers.

We sometimes complain about the disadvantages of living in a small town but there are also advantages. For 30 years or more I have used Ballenger Plumbing and Electric in Fort Payne. When called, they respond within a very short period of time, they have always been there when they say they will be (one time on a Sunday night when we had water all over the kitchen floor) and they charge a very reasonable amount! Mr. Ballenger is slowing down some and has trained his son to follow in his footsteps with the same professional service that we have always gotten from him. That's a good thing! I have known his entire family all my life and have come to appreciate them in a personal and professional way. That is one of the advantages of small-town living.
Wow, I own Atlanta Plumbing Directory in Atlanta and I called Zoom this morning and gave them a commercial slab leak. The secretary was really nice. She took all of the information and said they would call the homeowner and be there and thanks for the referral. Well this evening I get a call from the customer they didn't call or show up. As far as I am concerned Tom is a dirt bag and will never be listed in my Directory. He is just a cherry picker drain cleaner. Definitely not a Professional
If you have any plumbing problem in Atlanta call Aames Plumbing, I tried their service before and they respond instantly and within no time you will find one of their plumbers by your door step ready to solve all your plumbing problems. Recommended for everyone.
I would never recommend Aames plumbing, they told my neighbor he needed to replace a blue pipe that was defective. They charged him $3000 to replace 60 feet. They are a complete ripp off, there techs work on commission. The house was only 3 yrs old and my neighbor is suing them!
Eric, Great blog post, but unfortunate--and all too common experience. I put a page on my site specifically to help local home owners find a good plumber in Atlanta and avoid hiring the kind of contractors you and Anonymous's neighbor dealt with. The biggest thing you can do is get a recommendation from someone you trust.
