Movies watched on the plane

Yesterday, on the flight from Rome to Washington, D.C., I watched the following movies:

AMC Best Picture Showcase - Year 3

Today, for the third year in a row, we are going to the AMC Best Picture showcase. Here's how they describe it:

The following are the movies and times. We plan to get there just after 10:00am and scope out a good spot (since we're there all day, you need to get the right spot).

The Bank Job

A week or two ago, I went out to Netflix and added The Bank Job to my queue. However, I meant to add The Bank Job. The The Bank Job rated a 3.3 on IMDB, so I didn't even watch it. I went back to Netflix and added The Bank Job. It rated a 7.6. Confusing, huh ?

Drive-In, again ...

We're between movies at the drive-in. We just saw Wanted and in just a few minutes, The Incredible Hulk will start.

Throw Down Your Heart

This morning at Midnight, we went to the Nugget Theater in Telluride to see Throw Down Your Heart - Béla Fleck Brings The Banjo Back To Africa. Béla was there to introduce the movie. It was really good, but right now they have no distribution deal, so the only places you can see it are film festivals and music festivals where Béla is playing.

"Throw Down Your Heart follows American banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck on his journey to Africa to explore the little known African roots of the banjo and record an album. Béla's boundary-breaking musical adventure takes him to Uganda, Tanzania, The Gambia, and Mali, and provides a glimpse of the beauty and complexity of Africa. Using his banjo, Béla transcends barriers of language and culture, finding common ground and forging connections with musicians from very different backgrounds."

Movie Taverns consist of two concepts: the "Original" style locations that provide counter-service in the lobby and the "Premier" locations that provide full wait-staff service in each theatre. Both style of Movie Taverns combine first-run movies with a casual dining menu offering a wide range of choices that include half-pound burgers, homemade pizzas, chicken sandwiches, wings and fries, appetizers, beer, wine, and margaritas. Of course, you can always get traditional concession items, such as soft drinks, candy, and fresh-popped popcorn as well.

We've been waiting for a replacement for our beloved Alamo Drafthouse since we left Austin. Hopefully this will be it. We hope to check out next weekend to see Iron Man. This chain exists in Houston where Alamo also exists, so we have some hope that it will be 50% as good as Alamo.

The Last Man on Earth

Based on the chilling Richard Matheson science fiction Classic "I am Legend" and later remade as "The Omega Man" starring Charlton Heston, and also "I am Legend", starring Will Smith. This classic features Vincent Price as scientist Robert Morgan in a post apocalyptic nightmare world. The world has been consumed by a ravenous plague that has transformed humanity into a race of bloodthirsty vampires. Only Morgan proves immune, and becomes the solitary vampire slayer.

According to Wikipedia, this film is the most faithful of all three film adaptations and adheres fairly closely to the book.

Starlight Six Drive-In - First Time!

You may remember that last April, I mentioned our plan to attend the Starlight Six Drive-In. It was a hoot. Amy had never been to a drive-in and I hadn't been to one since I was in college. We had a second row spot in the center of the screen. We took Amy's car and the sound played through the stereo, so it sounded great.

We saw Daddy's Little Girls and Dreamgirls. Guess which we liked better!

Daddy's Little Girls

The other night we went to see a double feature, and one of the movies was Daddy's Little Girls. On the surface, it was a pleasant enough movie with a predictable and happy ending. The movie has been very popular here in Atlanta, because it was made here (just 2-3 miles from our house)

As I've thought more and more about it, I've decided that it was a badly written mess. It was clear that it was written by a man who doesn't respect women. Every woman was a caricature of a woman's worst possible attributes. There wasn't one female adult character that I would want to be in the same room with for even a minute.

The film was not the least bit believable. When I went to IMDB to get the link for the movie, I see that it is rated at a 2.1 (and is the 32nd worst movie ever).

Today, Amy and I are going to an AMC theater to see the AMC Best Picture Showcase. The tickets are $30 each. The tickets include a free large popcorn, free large drink, unlimited refills all day and a collectible pass. These are the movies we'll see:

It's Official: "Batman 2" Gets A Title

It's Official: "Batman 2" Gets A Title (August 1st 2006)
The title will be The Dark Knight. Oddly, they've chosen Heath Ledger as The Joker. The movie will begin production next year.

Wil Wheaton is 'Just a Geek'...

My wife and I just got back from a great evening. We went to the Alamo Drafthouse and saw Stand By Me. Wil Wheaton was there and talked about the filming of the movie and told some funny stories. I got a copy of Just a Geek and he was kind enough to sign it. I told him that he had gotten me into blogging and he asked 'What software do you use?' Yep, he's a geek.

I'm Batman...

Who's with me ? The new Batman movie is being directed by Christopher Nolan. It will be released on June 15, 2005. Quick plot summary: The beginning of the Dark Knight saga. Bruce Wayne (Batman) must do battle with the wicked Ra's Al Ghul, and the infamous Dr. Jonathan Crane, AKA The Scarecrow.

DVD Inventory...

A coworker turned me on to DVDProfiler. It's a great way of tracking your DVD's. It's an app that's available in both inexpensive and free versions. DVDProfiler can create reports and catalogs, and allows a place on the web to show off your inventory. Here's mine.

If you want general information about any movie ever made, there's only one place to go, IMDB. I love comic book movies and here's a great place to learn about them before they're released. Ain't it Cool News also has much about future films.
